Coach Johnson named new Farmington head boys basketball coach

I’d like to start by thanking Farmington athletic director Bill Tschida, principal Jason Berg, and others for giving me the opportunity to become the next Tiger boys basketball coach. I’d also like to thank my wife Deb and everyone else who has supported me in this journey.

I brief bio on me. I grew up in St.Cloud, Minnesota. After playing high school basketball at St. Cloud Tech, I started my coaching career at rival St. Cloud Apollo High School for the recently retired Coach Dean Kessler. I then landed a math teaching job at Farmington High School where I was the JV coach for Coach Shane Wyandt for the last 12 years.

In that stretch we helped build Farmington boys basketball from a one win team in 2005 to winning the Missota conference championship in 2009, its first since 1962. We also oversaw the transitions from class AAA to class AAAA and the move from the Missota to South Suburban Conference in 2014.

I am excited to lead this program and hope to continue the growth of basketball in the Farmington community. I am also looking forward to working with the athletes, parents, and everyone else involved to make these coming seasons a positive and successful experience.

Sincerely,

Tharen Johnson
